The worst part of ordering salads when eating out is the dressing. Traditional dressings are close to 100% fat, and what’s worse is that it’s processed nutrient-poor fat. Even low-fat dressings still have a lot of calories per tablespoon, and they usually will have more sugar and salt added to compensate for the fat loss. That’s why I always recommend making your own oil-free salad dressings. If you’re eating out, stash a 2-4 ounce container of the dressing in your purse. Don’t let the restaurants decide what you put in your body – your health is in your control.
Homemade salad dressings can be so simple, and this recipe proves just that. With only three ingredients, the prep time couldn’t be any less, and yet there’s still really bright flavor here.
This sweet dressing goes great over a simple green salad, or even over chopped fruit for a dessert. Check out my Peachy Green Vinaigrette for another easy oil-free dressing.
Makes about 1 cup

Stores days in fridge (unassembled)
- 1 cup ripe strawberries, sliced (about 7 medium strawberries)
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons fresh mint, chopped
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
1. Add all ingredients to a blender. Blend until smooth or to your desired consistency.
