Caffeine-Free Chai Spice

PKM Chai Spice 2

Recipe by Katie Mae
I love a perfectly spiced, vegan Chai Tea Latte.

Unfortunately, chai tea is made with black tea. This means a significant amount of caffeine, which is a drug many people, myself included, do better without.

As I was trying to let go of my attachment to vegan, dark-chocolate mochas, I thought making a non-caffeinated chai tea at home would be an easy alternative.

Well, I soon found out that chai spices available in stores and online were already mixed with the black tea. To make the situation worse, the chai spice is often balanced with sweetness from refined sugar, a substance more addictive than cocaine!

No problem. I would just have to create my own chai spice recipe.

So that’s what I did, and now, I can make my Chai Almond Latte using this homemade Caffeine-Free Chai Spice.

I love it. I hope you’re a fan too.

I use this combo for my chai spice, too, but I’ve found it tastes even better if you toast the cinnamon and cardamom. I toast ceylon cinnamon sticks the seeds inside a green cardamom pod and then grind them but I know people who toast ground spice, too. It works just as well but won’t be as fresh.
